Encore Performing Arts is currently seeking a Director of Education to lead and manage our growing youth programming. This volunteer leadership role is responsible for overseeing the development, coordination, and execution of all educational initiatives, including classes, workshops, and youth productions. The Director of Education plays a critical role in shaping the student experience, supporting instructional, creative, and production staff, and building strong relationships with families and the community.
This role has a dual reporting relationship to the Executive Producer and the Creative Director, and serves as the primary leader of Encore’s education function, ensuring programs are high-quality, organized, and aligned with Encore’s mission. The time commitment is approximately 5–8 hours per week (minimum 20 hours per month), with increased involvement during program launches, showcases, and production periods. This is an ongoing volunteer appointment with flexible scheduling.
Please Note: Encore Performing Arts is a non-profit, fully volunteer-based organization. All positions are unpaid. There are no physical office locations, and most work is conducted virtually, with occasional in-person programmatic needs as applicable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the vision, development, and implementation of Encore’s youth and children’s theater programming
Oversee all educational offerings, including classes, workshops, camps, and youth productions
Provide ongoing support, feedback, and mentorship to instructional staff to ensure high-quality programming
Oversee communication to parents and guardians, ensuring questions and concerns are handled with professionalism and care
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students
Collaborate with the Marketing/Creative teams to promote educational programming and support enrollment efforts
Monitor enrollment trends and program performance, making recommendations for growth and improvement
Support the maintenance of program records, rosters, and communications
Support the development of policies and procedures related to youth programming and education operations
Serve as the central point of coordination for all education-related activities, ensuring alignment between planning and execution
QUALIFICATIONS:
Background in youth education, preferably in theater, performing arts, or arts education
Experience working with children and/or adolescents in an instructional, coaching, or mentorship capacity
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to support and guide a team of creatives
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously
Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team
Comfort with using digital tools and virtual coordination (experience with scheduling or program management tools is a plus)
Passion for arts education, youth development, and community engagement
